Friday September 7th

Friday in class I will pass back all papers I have finished grading (Summer Reading and some Vocabulary Stories).

Before we take the VOCABULARY QUIZ, we'll do a quick review.

After the Vocabulary Quiz ... Start working on HOMEWORK that is DUE MONDAY:

1. Complete the Charts (Character and Conflict) as they relate to Summer Reading. Include page numbers for where evidence (data) would be found to support your statement (claim).

IF you cannot locate your chart ... or wish a new one...find it attached to the homepage of the class website.

REMEMBER ... a QUALITY response is in CLAIM, DATA, WARRANT format
Your DATA needs to be quality COW (think Filet Mignon) from the story ... and a generous portion to FILL the reader, do NOT leave the reader hungry!

Summer Reading TEST part 1 on Block Day next week ... short answer/essay format. Study homework, class notes, charts.

2. Vocabulary story ... lesson 2

Use all 20 words in a story ... type, double space, 12 point Times New Roman, 1 inch margins.
Underline, highlight, or bold the words as you use them.
Target ... 250-500 words ... include accurate word count

Remember: Give a title to your story (3 to 5 words that are catchy and get a reader to want to read your story)

Remember: stories have a beginning, middle, and an end. You need at least 3 paragraphs ... keep in mind - cover 1 idea per paragraph.

TOPIC: If you were a superhero what superpowers would you have? What would you be called? Would you live in the present...past...or future? Tell your story using ALL 20 VOCAB words from lesson 2. OPTION...NOT REQUIRED (but could be fun and descriptive): draw (neatly ... color too) a picture of you as a superhero.

Vocabulary Quiz Lesson 2 on Friday next week
... you will write sentences to illustrate a comic that I provide for you. There will be a short multiple choice section as well.

Next Week ... bring to class Vocabulary Book, Summer Reading, Grammar Book, and Literature Book

TRIVIA BONUS ... email me by Sunday at 4 PM...
The Bryan Brothers made HISTORY at the US Open on Friday 9-7-12. What record did they make?
