WRITING EXAM

Begins in class Monday 4-3-17 and conclude at Easter Break. The articles need to be active read in class, a rough draft completed in class, edited in class, and a final copy made in class.

If you finish early...read Frankenstein or the Required Outside Reading as both must be concluded by the end of Easter Break.

If you will be absent - sports - St. Vincent de Paul - illness - vacation ... Make arrangements to attend one of the EXTENDED TIME SESSIONS. This needs to be done by break

Monday 3-27

I announced the dates for finals...IN CLASS Tuesday 3-30 and Wed 3-21. Exam review material will be posted by Easter. Students with planners were highly encouraged to write this change down in their planners!

We completed and corrected WC page 646-647 EX 16-17-18 1-5 (took longer than expected...will do the rest on block day)

Friday 3-24 ... Preview of Next Week

Today a new Upfront Magazine was passed out. We read the article on page 2 about turkeys and the ETHICAL ZOO debate on page 22 and 23 to prepare for the Writing Exam. We discussed evidence used to support argument and approach (ethos/pathos/logos)

Homework due Tuesday - active Read Smoke Signals and Brave New World for Tuesday - focus on Thesis and Support ... what you need to find in Writing Exam articles

We began to discuss Sonnets in blocks 1-3-4-6.

REMINDER: Frankenstein Assignment #1 due Monday 3-27 and Poem #2 due Friday 3-31

BLOCK DAYS ... 3-22 and 3-23

REMINDER LATE START THURSDAY 3-23

Block Days will begin with a continued conversation about the role of masculinity and manhood in the play Macbeth.  Blocks 4-5-6 were told to think about 1 additional idea not discussed in class ... that will be shared block day.

We will discuss THESIS and SUPPORT FOR THESIS in Upfront Article "Trump's Travel Ban"

We will begin our Sonnet Conversation...to be continued FRIDAY.

Macbeth Essay test will be the second half of class.

NOTE: Macbeth Test will not be part of Quarter 3 grades

Today we will start the class discussing THESIS and SUPPORT from the article in Upfront, Trump's Travel Ban (MOVED TO BLOCK DAY)

Resume revisions will be turned in (IF APPLICABLE)

We will discuss role of MASCULINITY and MANHOOD in MACBETH ... each person come up with one more idea to share at start of block day

Block Days begin with a discussion/adding to our resume worksheets. They will be collected and returned on Monday.

We will then complete and correct Vocabulary Book Lessons 14 and 15 EVENS...Completing the Sentences.

We will continue our Macbeth CONFLICT DISCUSSION

Blocks 4 and 6 will watch the video that Blocks 1-3-5 watched with the sub last week
