Enjoyable Books to read this summer...

If you have time...
Divergent by Veronica Roth

The book is the first installment of the series (three total I believe). The DYSTOPIA is set in Chicago after Lake Michigan has become a swamp. A coming-of-age theme runs through this fast paced adventure story...with a hint of romance thrown in to keep multiple audiences involved.

As I read other books, I'll share them with you here. Feel Free to leave a comment about titles you suggest as well so that your peers can take advantage of your recommendations!

Check out the International Reading Association Young Adult Choices BOOK LIST for titles you may enjoy ... a list of books teens select for teens!

Another interesting list of books comes from Accredited Online Colleges. They posted a list of THE 15 BEST NOVELS FORECASTING OUR FUTURE. These books include Clockwork Orange and Farenheit 451, books many 10th grade students enjoy reading on their own. Dystopian Novels are popular right now, why not check out novels that were written a while ago that talk of the FUTURE ... notice what has or has not come true! This year we will read Brave New World. The fictional world created 500 years after the Model T rolled off the assembly line actually has some eerie concepts in it ... there are concepts we can assume the author thought were far fetched ideas in the 1930s but have come true since the book was written.

Accredited Online Colleges published a list of 21 Classics That Make for Great Beach Reads. Check out the list if you are looking for something to read...THAT IS NOT REQUIRED. I have read To Kill a Mockingbird, The House on Mango Street, and Treasure Island from that list.

An interesting site I found this summer detailed how libraries took summer reading to a "new level" with reading contests, prizes, and social gatherings. Reading CAN be fun ... give it a chance! Read the article, 15 Libraries Taking Summer Reading to the Next Level to learn more!
