Tuesday Topic ... Thesis Statements

Tuesday we'll discuss writing Thesis statements in class. Many of us need practice writing them...it will make our revision of paper #1 run smoothly if we look at a few key items!

We'll practice writing thesis statements in class.

We'll visit the Purdue OWL site.

All papers we write need thesis statements. It directs the writer to stay on focus and provides a "road map" for the reader!

The First Week of October

Today we reviewed Grammar Lessons thus far:
Active and Passive Voice of Verbs
Italics

AND Started ... Prepositions/Prepositional Phrases

We wrote down preposition rules:
1. Prepositional Phrases act as 1 part of speech (ADJ or ADV)
2. Do not end a sentence with a preposition as prepositions take objects...the formula for a prepositional phrase is

PREPOSITION + words + NOUN/PRONOUN = Prepositional Phrase

We edited our Vocabulary Lesson 3 stories to notice the prepositions in our writing/revise to cut down on strings of prepositions.

Some students went to the computer pod to look at comments made on their papers on www.turnitin.com
