Friday 12-9-16...BNW DIscussion

BLOCK 6 had one final presentation

Papers were passed back in most blocks

Reminders about finals/rooms...will post on MONDAY for TUESDAY and also post on DOOR of classroom

BNW Discussion:
  • Huxley's mastery ... innuendos about many cultures through history (Greece/India/USA/Germany discussed/reviewed today)
  • p. 70 .... Words are like X-Rays.... Power of books/words ... restriction of books/changing history (connect with Nazi Party in WWII)
  • John the Savage and Bernard...neither have real friends nor fit in
  • John and Bernard not being true friends to one another
  • John standing up for what he believes in ... no matter what others think/Bernard as well
  • Connecting John/Bernard/Helmholtz with other characters (TEXT-TO-TEXT)
  • Foreshadowing John's Suicide...page 136 .... then last page of book

Friday 12-2 and Monday 12-5 and Tuesday 12-6

Friday 12-2 We continued with presentations
Block 4 completed presentations and began to delve into the RATIONALE behind how the World State was made...looking first at page 223 ... population based on ICEBERG.

Monday 12-5
All blocks began where Block 4 was on Friday and also looked deeper at what MOND's plan was to create the "utopia"
Page 220 includes a passage discussing what was eliminated from the world...lists items that cause man vs self and man vs man conflicts...to create STABILITY
Students added to the list while I did a binder check
Presentations continued

Tuesday 12-6 RETREAT

UPCOMING:
