Brave New World Projects were shared

Blocks 4-5-6 were given a TONE/MOOD WS...they were assigned an UPFRONT article to apply it to - to be discussed at the start of class Friday ... BLOCK 3 will do so next week.

REMINDER...ON BLOCK DAY I mentioned that Macbeth is due 2-28...if you have been reading an act and completing the assigned written portion every 5 days you are on ACT 4 now...if not... you have 9 days before it is due...budget an act a day...

Tuesday we went to the LA Museum of the Holocaust

Blocks 4 and 6 wrote thank you notes to the people involved in making the day happen

All blocks read A Day on the Campaign Trail and answered questions on a WS. We then discussed Thesis and Focus Statements as well as text features used in the article

Today we started with a few minutes to complete and correct WC Exercise 8 page 700

We discussed Upfront Articles  -
Looked at TEXT FEATURES, Searched for THESIS and FOCUS Statements, and Looked for AUTHOR BIAS (Rewriting History)

30 minutes were devoted to group project work

Today the Personal Narrative Rubrics and Rough Draft/Peer editing documents were turned in...final draft uploaded by 7 AM today.

We completed and corrected WC EX 7 page 699

The BNW worksheet from Monday was returned.
Groups were formed - topics chosen - and time to begin dividing and conquering preparation for group work on Block Day.

Today we discussed the upcoming BNW project and selected passages from Chapters 16 and 17

Topics included:
Reminder about population - iceberg and cultural references (from BLOCK DAY)
World State not having a place for OLD
Role of Religion (Block 6 will get to this Monday)
Concept of HAPPY and how it is difficult to make others happy
"The price we pay for satability"
Mond making the rules but breaking them with impunity...

Chapter 16...page 223...The Optimum Population is based on the iceberg...we related it to social structure in the novel, our world, and the motto: Community, Identity, Stability
