Today in class we will:
Complete WC Unit 12 Quiz

Papers will be passed back

Upfront article Heritage of Hate will be read in class.

If you missed a CROSS COUNTRY CONNECTIONS post you may respond to the REFLECTIONS post by 12-29-15 5 PM for partial credit/make-up credit.

Monday with the sub everyone:

People were put into groups (using cards) and worked on BNW worksheet (due at end of class)

Tuesday 11-17

Today BNW Reading Assignment was turned in and we completed and corrected the APPOSITIVES exercises in WC ... odds in ex 5-6-7 pages 521-522.

We discussed Maus: We wrote 6 words stories to capture the essence of the text in 6 words...as Hemingway did in 1920 to win a bet.

Block 6 started to discuss the format of BNW.

Monday 11-16

Today the November News Story was turned in while Vocabulary Lesson 7 Synonyms was completed. We corrected the Vocabulary lesson and discussed upcoming assignments.

We discussed the test format...text to text connection and lit devices. If I give a lit device I will define it for you...you just need to apply it to the text.

Today's Maus discussion: Hyperbole and Litotes...continues tomorrow.

Block Days and Friday

Block Days we played VOCABULARY BINGO for bonus points on the Vocabulary Test then discussed Maus.

We watched a clip of an interview with Art Spiegelman where he discussed the writing process and looked for moments in the text where he "stepped out of the story" and directly communicated with the audience.

Friday:
I was speaking at a conference in Sacramento. The sub administered the Vocabulary Test. After the test Students were to read from the Upfront Magazine.

Due Next Week:
MONDAY: November News Story ... submitted WITH RUBRIC
TUESDAY: Brave New World Reading WS
BLOCK DAY: PART of class will be spent on MAUS/Lottery/Diary/Letter Test ... rest on Grammar

Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday

We spent the time in the library Tuesday working on the PERSONAL NARRATIVE - Personal portion. It was uploaded by the end of Tuesday.

Block Day was spent working with our groups on the group presentation. The individual portions of the group presentation will be uploaded by November 30th. A collective project will be turned in according to the rubric directions on 12-1, the day of the oral presentations.

SUGGESTION: Read 1 chapter of Brave New World each day

Semester 1 EXAM

The final exam ESSAY will be IN CLASS on MONDAY 12-14-15
The final exam (scantron/short answer) will be on Tuesday 12-15 at 8:30 AM
The Study Guide will be posted the week of Thanksgiving

Those students with EXTRA time on file in the Guidance office will meet in my classroom at 7 AM and work till the stopping point at 10 AM.
