Today we finished activities in the Vocabulary Book. We completed pages 171-173. Students were given the option to recycle the book IN CLASS or to TAKE it home.

Today we discussed Poetry and took the poetry final.

On Tuesday 5-29-12 we will have a final Poetry Assessment. There will be two poems to read and ten questions to answer - using textual evidence from the poems.
On Monday 6-4-12 we will have our cumulative review essay ... you will demonstrate your understanding of themes/concepts from ALL of the TEXTS we read...summer reading, semester 1, and semester 2.
TOPICS will range from a variety of themes that are seen in all texts...they MAY include:
What does it mean to be human?
1. Man vs Man, Man vs Self, Man vs Society conflicts
2. Dynamic and Static/Flat and Round Characters
3. Characters learning a lesson from their actions
4. Life is a series of choices...how does a character's choice impact their life or others?
5. How do characters reflect the Christian Gentlemen ESLR?
6. Characters "Playing God"
7. Characters wanting to "fit in" ... reasons why isolated/lonely/different
8. A character's fatal flaw
9. Role of Nature ... nature as an unnamed character
10. Information a reader may learn from reading a work of FACT or FICTION
11. Techniques the author uses to make a story entertaining for the target audience
Grammar - multiple choice questions cover topics we addressed this year ... approx 20-30 total
LOOK at the class website for review ideas ... each book's page has a list of reminders on themes, etc.

We discussed My Papa's Waltz (470) and At The San Francisco Airport (466). For both, we annotated the poems in our book as we TPCASTT with our partners and with the class as a whole.
