October draws to a conclusion

Today we took our quiz on lessons 15 and 16 in vocabulary. Next week will be lesson 17.

Friday 11-6-09 the Outside Reading report is due (Under PAPERS on the website) ...bring your book to class as well.

Read the Book Burning activity...work on it...bring your work to class on the day that you are NOT on retreat...either Wed the 4th or Thurs the 5th. Activity can be found on Holocaust Studies Page on Website. Final project is due Monday 11-9-09.

Have BOTH Holocaust books with you in class at all times. the 4th or 5th you'll have a reading assignment out of the Rescuer book.

The End of October...

Today I passed back all papers...minus the group presentations (Propaganda) if you have already gone...those will be passed back after EVERYONE has presented.

We also discussed the Holocaust Studies Book Burning Assignment ... research MUST be done prior to next week. It will be worked on in class the day you are not on 10th retreat (11/4 or 11/5).

Holocaust "Topic" Speaker...Nov. 3rd

ON the Holocaust Studies page on the website...I listed a Book Burning Assignment due Monday 10-26-09 .. that is being changed ... details on website also...bring in information, on Nov 4 and 5 when part of the class is on retreat you can work on teh project compilation...it's due Monday November 9th.

BONUS OPPORTUNITY

Goldstar ( a discount events website) listed a speaker on the topic of the Holocaust. If you attend the event,bring in your admission ticket and I will give you an assignment to complete based upon the event. You have the opportunity to earn 15 bonus points to be applied to the Holocaust Studies unit.

The bonus points CANNOT be applied to make up for work not done, it can only be used to enhance hard work that has already been done. Bonus Points are bonus…not INSTEAD of regular assigned work. Bouns = going above and beyond.

Technical Difficulties

Block 4 presentations did NOT happen as the projector did not work. Mr. Ozdowski came to my rescue and helped out so that blocks 3 and 5 could start presentations. Tomorrow be prepared for completing the presentations.

We also started lesson 14 in vocabulary...test Friday lessons 8-14 with an emphasis on 13 and 14.

Tuesday 10-20-09

Don't forget the group presentations are due tomorrow...you are responsible for the group EVEN if a member is absent!

Today I passed back papers and we worked on the photo comparison assignment. If not done in class it is homework.

Paper Deadlines...coming sooner than you think

The Outside Reading report is posted on the website under first semester papers. On the syllabus it says it is due Nov 4th. Some of you will have retreat that day.

THEREFORE...it will be due NOVEMBER 6TH FOR ALL students. Mark the change in your planners...and on the syllabus.

Paper #2 was posted on the website also...rough draft due date is set for October 27th. I have not shared the info with you as of this post as I got an opportunity for a writing contest for you guys. I am working on the instructions/rubric for the assignment and will post/explain early next week...the essay will require some, no alot, of research and has a word count that can not be exceeded...why not try to win 5,000.00 in an essay content and l;earn MLA format at the same time!

As of Saturday 10-17-09 at 7 pm the Essay Contest Rubric was posted to the Papers Page on the website...draft due 10-27-09 (750 words...or just a bit less). winner earns $5,000.00 - essay contest topic sent to me from the Bill of Rights Institute

The final draft will be due before Thanksgiving (Tuesday 11-24 or whenever you leave for your Thanksgiving Break)...and I must email the contest entries no later than the last day of November.

October 9th

I passed back all outstanding papers today before the quiz was taken. What do I have of yours? Your Literature test from Wednesday, the paper you turned in today and your vocabulary quiz from today). Check SOTW to make sure everything is accurate. Come see me during tutoring time if a correction needs to be made...grades for the 1st quarter are due next week (Thursday as I leave school).

Monday October 5th

Today I'll return last week's vocabulary quiz - corrections due tomorrow - and introduce this weeks words. This week's quiz will be multiple choice.

We'll discuss Management of Grief with the test on all three LIT STORIES being Wednesday.

Thursday bring in a photograph of yourself (a group or portrait...just mUST be appropriate for school).

Friday the final paper draft is due. The paper must be sent to turnitin.com prior to class time and a hard copy stapled behind ALL drafts in order for the paper to be "on time". If you have not signed up for turnitin.com DO SO NOW!

We'll begin out Holocaust literature studies this week.

Notice common threads between the stories

Look for signs of author's voice/writing style/intended audience

Format: Essay...concrete textual evidence...thesis statement is used to guide your writing

Today we took our vocabulary quiz on lessons 8 and 9 (sentence form). Next week we'll have a quiz on lessons 9 and 10 (Friday). Tuesday the vocabulary quiz corrections for lessons 8 and 9 are due.

Wednesday we'll have a TEST on the 3 literature stories we read in our text.

Bring the two Holocaust books to class starting on Monday. A study guide will be posted on the blog...a note will be placed here to inform you when it is!

Remember to read your OR book...the report will be due at the beginning of November.

October 1st

Today we discussed how to register for Turnitin.com (tonight's homework). I collected the paper draft redo's and passed back all papers I had. We got in a circle and active read/discussed Management of Grief.

Tomorrow is a vocabulary quiz on lessons 8-9 (sentence structure). Wednesday a TEST on the 3 Lit Stories and a vocabulary quiz lessons 9 and 10 next Friday (9th).

For Monday 10-5-09 Bring two holocaust novels. For Thursday 10-8-09 bring a photo of yourself (alone or in a group)
